Get a price for yoursThe short answer
How much does microwave cleaning cost? £20 when it is done alongside an oven and £30 booked on its own, with the £70 minimum for a visit that has no oven in it. A combination microwave that grills and bakes is the same price, and a scorched waveguide cover is flagged as a part to replace.
What microwave cleaning costs
Same price everywhere we go, and free travel inside 12 miles of Burwell. Tell us the make and your village and the price comes back fixed in writing, not as an estimate.
Published locally: microwave, alongside an oven, £15 to £40. Ours is £20. Where that figure comes from.
That is the price alongside an oven clean, which is how almost everyone books it: the visit is already happening, so the microwave costs £20 instead of £30. On its own the £70 minimum applies to any visit without an oven in it.
What is in the price
- The roof, the walls and the floor
- The turntable and the roller ring
- The door, the seal and the catch
- No VAT, and free travel within 12 miles of Burwell
- No deposit
- Pay when the work is finished
- Free to move or cancel a date
What you get back from a microwave clean
A microwave that is clean on the roof, the walls and under the turntable, with a clean door seal.
To do that, these come off or come apart:
- The turntable and the roller ring under it
- The waveguide cover on the wall or the roof
- The door seal and the catch
- The grill element and shelf, on a combination model
Most of the mess in a microwave is on the roof, because that is where splashes land and bake on. The waveguide cover, the small panel on the wall, cannot be scrubbed hard. If it is scorched or arcing it needs replacing, and we will tell you.
What doing it yourself cannot reach
- Under the roller ring and in the turntable recess
- The roof, which is where most of the baked on splashes actually are
- The door seal channel, where crumbs and grease collect
Solo or combination?
Same price for both.
- Solo
- Splashes and spills. The roof, the ring and the waveguide cover are the parts that need doing.
- Combination
- Grills and bakes too, so it has baked on carbon like a small oven.
- Built in
- Cleaned where it sits. Nothing needs unplugging or pulling out.

Questions people ask about microwave cleaning
Is a microwave worth paying to have cleaned?
At £20 alongside an oven it is the cheapest thing in the kitchen to put right, and it is the one appliance where the smell comes from a part you cannot see: the waveguide cover on the inside wall. Almost everyone has it done while we are already there, which is why it is £20 instead of £30.
What is the waveguide cover?
The small panel, usually mica, on the inside wall or roof. It protects the part that generates the microwaves, it absorbs splashes, and when it burns or arcs it needs replacing, not cleaning. Most people have never noticed it is there.
Do you clean combination microwaves?
Yes, and they take longer than a solo one because they grill and bake as well, so there is baked carbon in there as well as splashes. The price is the same either way.
Will the smell go?
Usually, because the smell is burnt food on the roof, the turntable ring and the waveguide cover, not something in the air. If the cover itself is scorched the smell can come back when it heats up, and then it is a replacement part, not a cleaning job.
Do you clean built in microwaves?
Yes, and it stays where it is. The turntable and its ring come out, the cavity, the roof and the waveguide cover are done in place, and the price is the same as for one that sits on the worktop.
How do I stop the microwave getting this bad again?
Cover food while it heats and wipe splashes while they are still fresh. A splash that gets heated again every day bakes onto the roof and the waveguide cover, and that is the part that starts to smell and, left long enough, to scorch.
